New Year Resolutions & Time
Happy New Year!
By Maya
Another year soon shall become past and hopefully holding some very special memories for you. Because this is how we later in life judge all the good, bad, happy, unhappy, successes, failures, happiness, sorrows… that we experienced. Life is real collection of memories and more years we survive, the more memories we accumulate and in a ways richer we become. Some memories could so wonderfully memorable that would help us overcome even gloomy days that often unexpectedly pay us a visit.
It is become a custom to set some goals for ourselves to be achieved in a course of coming year, giving it rather fancy name “resolutions.” This phenomena has one thing in common in every single case. No matter how “resolutely” all might start, still its progress and mainly end has a one common denominator. They often fail miserably. It is really somewhat sad, because in it were placed such a sincere hopes, desires, decisions, plans, you name it…but as time goes on, all is fading out and eventually it is forgotten, little or nothing was accomplished and here we go… another year, another chance?
So lets look at it with cool and open mind.
What ‘s the reason for all this failures? I would say at first it is simply human nature that definitely is not perfect and never will be. But, it could be improved. We are able to achieve, accomplish, create, make, learn and so on… but how come only some of us are capable to make it last to the point of acquiring useful habits or ideally build it into perfection.
To master something in life is absolutely the most amazing experience that surely bring total satisfaction. We admire those who mastered musical instrument, excel in some sport, whatever it might be. But there is more to it than just being gifted with talent. Talent without perfecting and cultivating it means nothing. Many people are highly talented and even do not know they are.
So what is than that main ingredient to make it all possible. Something what is generally very much disliked: discipline.
However, this is only thing that works. Trust me on it. You must change yourself, your thinking, your attitude and embrace it.
I did as you could find out by clicking on the “key” word here and read my article on a subject.
I do NOT make New Year Resolutions, ever. Simply because I don’t have to. You know, I mastered discipline and glad I am I did. Because I don’t have to worry about all those prosaic matters like loosing weight, start exercising or becoming a vegetarian. My lifestyle assures that automatically.
So I look at this whole matter from totally different angle From the side of TIME.
“Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have,
and only you can determine how it will be spent.
Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.”
Carl Sandburg
Yes, pay attention to it keenly, it is Powerful! Surely all you want to accomplish should have set certain time frame. Achievable, of course. And there is so much to do and so much to see and so much to appreciate and so little time… OUCH! So my wish that always comes to my mind and unfortunately never ever come to fulfillment is for the day to become of at least 48 hours length :) Because:
“Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.”
William Penn
“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”
M. Scott Peck
Let me add to this. When you achieve via discipline what you wish, you become totally different person. Your whole outlook on life shall change, you’ll use your time much better and all what you just wished to accomplish just as a
“really no success guaranteed” New Year Resolution, shall become natural part of it of your much happier daily life.
“The time for action is now. It’s never too late to do something.”
Carl Sandburg
Take a “hint” from this wisdom…
And now let me share with you some gifts of wisdom and wonderful New Year’s recipe:
So when and for what one should take time:
Take time to pray…It helps to bring God near and washes the dust of the earth from your eyes.
Take time for friends… they are the source of happiness.
Take time for work…it is the price of success.
Take time to think…it is the source of power.
Take time to read…it is the foundation of knowledge.
Take time to laugh…it is the singing that helps with life’s loads.
Take time to love…it is the one sacrament of life
Take time to dream…it hitches the soul to the stars.
Take time to play…it is the secret of youth.
Take time to worship…it is the highway to reverence.

New Year’s Recipe:
(credit for this recipe goes to my Polish friend Apolonia)
Take twelve whole months.
Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.
Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-one parts,
but don’t make up the whole batch at once.
Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients:
Mix well into each day one part of faith,
one part of patience, one part of courage,
and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope,
faithfulness, generosity, and kindness.
Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation,
and one good deed.
Season the whole with a dash of good spirits,
a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play,
and a cupful of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love.
Cook thoroughly over radiant joy,
garnish with a smile,
and serve with quietness, unselfishness,
and cheerfulness.
Enjoy!!!
“So here are verses to remember
not just for New Year but Forever!“
Maya
“From quiet homes and first beginning,
Out to the undiscovered ends,
There’s nothing worth the wear of winning,
But laughter and the love of friends.”
Hilaire Belloc
